About Us
Cindy & Leslie are a mother and daughter team who have also been Doctoral Level Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners for many years. They discovered the joy of sewing, particularly quilting, within the past few years and have realized that it's a wonderful outlet for stress reduction, creativity, and self-actualization. With the understanding that many people (including themselves) enjoy the fellowship and friendship of learning and sewing with others, they decided to open SEWcial Time to bring this joy and fellowship to our own community.
In addition to selling fabric, pre-cuts, and notions, SEWcial Time offers basic sewing classes, quilting classes, open sewing time, machine service and repairs, and much more to facilitate learning and fellowship with other quilters and sewers.
SEWcial Time's Mission is to ensure that the joy of sewing is accessible to all interested individuals in our community. Therefore, a few machines have been purchased for people to utilize within the shop if they do not yet have their own, if their machine isn't working at this time, or if they aren't sure if they want to invest in one yet. Additional resources will be available for community use as the business grows.
SEWcial Time acknowledges that our store is currently located on the tribal territory of the Choctaw Nation, and the ancestral homelands of the: |
(O-ga-xpa / Quapaw), Osage, Kickapoo, and Caddo Nations. |
More than acknowledgement – we want to recognize the forceful removal and trauma that Native Americans and Indigenous People have endured throughout colonization. |
Therefore, beginning January 2025, each month we will be donating to local First Nation Organizations and charities to support Native Sovereignty. In addition, we will be paying an annual voluntary land tax as a concrete way to recognize the repercussions of stolen land still being felt in Indigenous communities today. |
The burden of education is on us, and we will continue to listen, learn, and follow the lead of marginalized communities. That being said – we recognize that we are not the experts and want everyone to feel comfortable to reach out to us at sewcialtimequilting@gmail.com with suggestions or corrections. |
